Greer’s Quay was built as a breakwater by the local landlord owner of Ballyoonan House. The stone came from a local quarry up on the mountain. It took many years to build as it had to be worked around tide times. the quay was used during the war years for fishing by the locals. they would use their boats to dredge for mussels and perriwinkles at Killowen. The quay was also used as a port for smuggling coal during the shortages that happened in Ireland. The quay was let run down for many years, but thankfully has been restored back to its beauty over the year
